Cowslips
Primula veris.
A welcome sight. An important wild plant round here as it is the principal food plant of the Duke of Burgundy Fritillary butterfly which has been in decline. Efforts have been made in several parts of the country to reinforce the Duke’s numbers and planting more Cowslips is an important part of this.
The butterfly lays its eggs on the underside of Cowslip leaves which the provide the most favoured food for the caterpillars.
