Stefano in Orvieto

Last morning in Orvieto. We stopped at the Duomo and sat down for a spell to appreciate the work that went into creating the building. On our way to the funicular, Gail noticed this street sign, and after being called santo Stefano by one of my Italian teachers, I thought a picture was a nice souvenir.

We caught the train back to Florence and noticed a couple of other trains were cancelled due to a strike. We got barely 15 minutes down the track and I was awakened from my nap by someone saying we had to leave the train. The strike had caught up with us.

We went to a restaurant and ordered lunch while we considered the alternatives: get a room and stay the night or get a taxi back. We went back over to the train station and two women we’d met at the restaurant were asking about a taxi. When the taxi arrived, they wanted $300 euros cash and we decided to get home by sharing the taxi. Not cheap but it worked to get us back. In the taxi I cancelled the room we had rented and am still waiting to hear if the owner granted us a refund.
