The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

One of our favourite walks in Dorset is from the stone-roofed vilage of Worth Matravers down the Winscombe Bottom valley to the sea, then along the coast path and back up to the village by Seacombe Bottom.

The pub in the village is like no other. I first went there in the 70s and it hasn't changed much (if at all) since then. There's only a small seating sarea inside so most people sit outside. It's usually so busy at weekends that we don't bother (there's only one tiny hatch that everyone is served from) but it was nice to visit on a weekday when it was quiet. Didn't think much of the pies or pasties though. My pasty had a hair in it.
