The Citreon 2CV of the beetle world.
Oiceoptoma thoracica is a carrion beetle. Its acute sense of smell allows it to home in on a dead animal, or rotting fungus, from quite some distance away. Rather than feed on the carcass, it lays its eggs in the flesh for its larvae to feast on when they hatch.
When trying to identify this beetle, I came upon a description of its unusual surface texture. It was described as rather like a beaten up car panel, or a Citreon 2CV! Apt I think.
