Interloping Shieldbug

As soon as I saw the three little white dots on the front edge of the scutellum and the pale wing membrane I knew that this was not our common green shieldbug but the southern green shieldbug. This is the first that I have seen. I read about them when I found and photographed the nymphs in 2022. It's native to Africa but has become established in southern Europe. It has been imported into the UK on food produce. Unlike our common green shieldbug, which is no threat to crops, these damage berries, beans and tomatoes.

On 31st January new border controls were introduced here to guard against incoming pests and diseases.
