Seggie Boats
Here are Elsie and Hannah, sailing seggie boats. I don't know if this is a Shetland word, or a Scottish one - seggs are what we call flag irises, and seggie boats are made from the iris leaves. You make a little slot along the length of the leaf, about 2/3 of the way from the tip. Then you curl the tip over, and push it through the slot about 2 inches, to make a keel. The curled bit is the sail. They fairly go, with a fair wind. Tonight there was too much seaweed about - they kept running aground.
Sorry I haven't been commenting much lately, I have been very busy in work, and now have visitors. But I will get around to it.
