St Benedict’s motto is displayed on a sundial at Reichenau Abbey, situated on the eponymous island in Lake Constance (Bodensee). Founded in the 8th century AD, the abbey became a centre of medieval religiosity and learnedness. Today it is part of UNESCO world heritage.
