AT THE MATCH
Newcastle had a home game this afternoon - a 12.30pm kick off against Spurs. I got a bus to town at around 10.15am - I wanted to get in early in case there were delays on the buses. Had a bit of a mooch round town before heading for St James Park.
It was a special day today. For the first time ever in football Newcastle United brought in new haptic shirts to allow deaf fans in attendance the chance to feel the noise of St James' Park. ( haptics - a vibration or other tactile sensation received from a computer or electronic device) Working with shirt sponsor Sela and the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) Newcastle United were able to transform the noise in the stadium into real-time touch sensation for fans and match day mascots who have hearing loss. As part of their " Unsilence The Crowd " campaign Sela has also committed to providing the technology at all future Newcastle United home games. Newcastle United players also wore a one-off matchday shirt emblazoned with the logo of RNID, the national charity supporting the 12 million people in the UK who are deaf or have hearing loss. This is the first time a hearing loss charity has been promoted on the front of a Premier League shirt. During the week a couple of Newcastle players visited some deaf children and invited them to be mascots at today's game - you can see them in my collage. They all seemed delighted and excited to be part of the occasion.
Ive added an Extra of the large banner which was unfurled in the Gallowgate end before kick off. The players featured are all local lads who are in the current squad.
Now to the match. It was a good one. Newcastle played really well. They scored their first goal on 30 mins ( Isak ) and 2 mins later Gordon scored... he's bottom left on my collage. In the second half Newcastle got the ball in the net twice more - after 51 mins ( Isak again ) and then on 87 mins. The last goal was scored by my favourite player - Fabian Schar ...he's top left in my collage. So the final score was Newcastle 4 Spurs 0. A great win and a clean sheet.... which takes Newcastle up to 6th in the table.
After the match I did a quick shop in Tesco and then got a bus home. I was ahead of the crowds and the bus had plenty of room.
The weather today was dry and VERY sunny - but there was a chilly wind. The rain returned this evening.
