Ancient And Modern
We enjoyed a Mediterranean- style breakfast in the local branch of Bill’s before catching the water bus from Cardiff Bay along the River Taf to the Millennium Stadium.
From there we walked across a sunny Bute Park and spent an interesting couple of hours exploring Cardiff Castle. The blip, taken from the castle walls, shows the 12th Century Norman Keep with the Millennium Stadium behind.
The more modern castle was heavily renovated by the Victorian Marquess of Bute and designer William Burges in a striking combination of Medieval and Gothic styles (see extras).
As well as patrolling the battlements, we visited the air rad shelters in the walls and the military museum.
Later we celebrated our anniversary with afternoon tea, which the children bought us, at The Ivy Asia. The restaurant is also spectacularly decorated, this time in Japanese style and the food was delicious, with a selection of sushi, spring rolls, bar buns and gyozas, followed by a plate of tasty cakes, all washed down with a glass of champagne and Japanese teas.
We rounded off a memorable anniversary with drinks back at the Bay, watching the sun go down.
