White Bryony
The amazing support tendrils of White Bryony, Bryonia cretica, the only native British member of the gourd family. This is a really attractive plant at all life stages, from the scaffolding of stems and twirling tendrils in spring to the delicate green-white flowers and the clusters of brilliant red flowers in the autumn. All parts of the plant are poisonous and the roots were sold as fake Mandrake roots in the past, with claims of all sorts of magical and medicinal powers.
