Flower Friday 19_2024
The Judas tree is prolific in Macedonia and thessaly and is an extraordinary shade of purple. The flowers grow from the trunk and branches and the tree is believed to be the one that Judas hung himself from! This particular tree was growing in the area of the meteora Monasteries! First photo stop on our way up the hair pin bends of the road up! We went to the great Meteora Monastery, the largest with the most elaborate frescoes covering every inch of the inside walls! To get in we had to climb down and then the climb thd steps up the the entrance! It was too much for one person and another got an attack of anxiety over the steep drop to one side of the stairs and could not go any further!
The first stop was the loo which was a long drop variety sadly! I had never experienced one before and I was told much later that there are flushes for use after seeing but I didn’t know! The other rather extraordinary thing about Greece is that you don’t put paper into the basin but into the bin and it is too easy not to think about it!
Extras, steps to great meteora monastery,
Apse from outside showing the artistic work of the builders, conglomerate rock landscape, close up of conglomerate rock,
