Not perfect

As venues go Kendal Rugby Club has a lot of glitz and comfort but it's also missing easy access to relevant outdoors etc.
But. 
We're not aiming for perfect. 

As with any course there's a mix of skills and experience. 
 So I've two grizzled old kayak explorers, a super keen 16 year old who just knows he loves to be outdoors, a firefighter, a couple of teachers, a wannabee mountain leader and a newly married couple.
The firefighter needs to learn he won't always have a giant red box of tricks to back him up. Youngster is learning the basics, but how to do them really well. Teachers are rembering that grown adults have different physiology to kids, the newlyweds have to accept that working together is lovely but alters your radar. The kayakers are learning there's a world of accidents that don't involve water, and a kinda vice versa for our aspirant Mountain Leader. 

As the Assessor I don't need them to know everything, I don't expect them to be perfect, I'm looking for people who step forward when it goes wrong, who get the basics right without having to think about it, the aim is to make the sort of small quiet heroes who get it done when it matters. 

But tomorrow we're going to leave the rugby club grounds, lovely though they are!
