My friendly robin is a good listener.

I was minding my own business, reading a thriller, with the washing machine sorting the bedding, when I heard a terrific bang. One minute the washer was spinning fast and then !!! 

It all sounds pretty terminal.
The washer has been great and it’s probably getting on for ten years old.

John Lewis won’t take the old one away these days (as I found on their site) and a local shop will send an engineer out this week. So, let’s see how I go on.

I must admit, when I’d told the robin all about it, it didn’t seem so terrible.
