Adaptable
It's always the same: my hair keeps growing until I'm suddenly aware that it's driving me mad, looks a mess, and needs cutting. So this morning I rang a hairdresser and was able to get an appointment for a cut-and-blow mid-morning. Saw someone I'd not seen before, but she seemed to do a reasonable job and quite quickly. "Only" cost about a pound a minute!
Then off we drove to Rutland to try lunch at a pub new to us. Hoping to meet a friend there anon, as it's about halfway between our respective homes, and wanted to check it out. Not bad at all! It does light bites and full meals and the prices are reasonable, so now I just need to email her and suggest a date. The latter could be tricky, but we'll see.
It was lovely driving through the countryside, even in the rain, and we had glimpses of Rutland Water, too. This roadworks sign is so clever. The main sign obviously shows a road narrowing from both sides. The straight line on top can be screwed either side, both ways up, so that the sign can be adapted to the roadmakers' needs. Simple, but effective. If we hadn't come to a standstill right beside it, I'd never have noticed. The hold-up was well worthwhile. They were resurfacing a whole length of road, doing the job properly. Very different from Lincolnshire, where they filled a few individual holes that - a few weeks later - are already reverting to potholes. Hmm.
Mr PP is a star. As the rain had stopped he shot out this afternoon and gave the grass another cut. (Frequent cuts are the only way to manage it.) He finished the job in light rain again, but at least it's done.
Happy St George's Day!
