Bitumen and aggregate
I am pleased that so many people liked the St Bega sculpture yesterday, as I was very taken with it. I was surprised that a few Blippers knew/knew of Josefina de Vasconcellos, as I had never heard of her. It turns out that she lived in Langdale for a long while and there are pieces of her work in various locations around Cumbria, as well as elsewhere. I may have to locate some of them.
Our road - the saga continues
When we arrived back yesterday afternoon, we were not allowed into the village, not even for access. We had a short, and friendly, discussion with the guy guarding the road, then we turned round and took a long route round to enter the village from the other end where the road was finished and set.
It turns out that our road has had Carriageway Surface Dressing done. We got an informative leaflet explaining it the day before but had not realised that it was going to happen the next day - we missed all the excitement. So our road has been sealed and the surface should last ten years. It looks good, although of course our vehicles will do a lot of the embedding, suffering lots of loose chippings in the process. Eventually a sweeper will come along.
Just why our village had been singled out is a mystery, as there are many worse roads with potholes etc. all around. Perhaps they are trying to stop the main complainer from complaining by giving him a smart bit of road outside his house!
