Quarry Bank

The family have left and gone to their respective homes and we’ve moved on from the Air B and B to a very nice Pub with Rooms near Chesterfield.
It started rainy and wet this morning, so we went to Quarry Bank mill museum a National Trust property near Styal, close to Manchester Airport.
It’s a fascinating place and makes for an excellent day out with loads to see.
It was where the cotton  ( supplied by the slave trade) spinning trade back in the Seventeen hundreds was developed from a simple task done by children and young women ( mainly) to a highly efficient mechanised industry churning out miles of fabric in a fraction of the time taken by humans. The engineering developed at this time to speed up the process was all part of the Industrial Revolution. The whole story of the Mill owner and his wife and family , and their workers, mostly orphaned children from workhouses, is all very interesting.
The gardens are beautiful too , extra , and there is a good cafe.
Tomorrow we’re going to Chatsworth.
This is being a memorable birthday!
