A violin not hanging on a door
Completely convincing painting of a violin hanging on a door at Chatsworth.
The door is real, the hook it is hanging from is real but the violin is a painting by Jan van Der Vaardt, painted around 1723.
You can only get up to a few metres away but it totally and completely had us convinced!
Chatsworth House stands in 1,822 acres, is absolutely enormous , was started in 1553 and has been added to over the years.
It is full of priceless antiques and paintings, tapestries etc. Well worth seeing. We had a one and a half hour taster tour which scratches the surface of the place really.
Whenever I go to these places, what I really want to see is the private apartments of the family who live there. I’d like to see what sort of toothpaste they buy and what magazines they have lying around. Are they tidy or messy?
Anyway you can’t do that so in the collage are few more pictures of things you are allowed to see.
