Victory lap
A big yay and yee-hah for our collaboration with Woodhead Architects, as we romped it in to win the Australian Institute of Architects' major heritage award for our work on the restoration and creative adaptation of the QT Hotel! This project got underway five years ago and took a lot of work with a fantastic team of specialists to meld together two separate buildings (the over-the-top 1929 art deco State Theatre and the Gowings building: both buildings are State Heritage listed) into a quirky complex that's now on the 2013 list of the world's best new hotels.
Am very glad that my part in the process finished some time ago- I'm a back-of-house kind of person (as some of you might guess...!). And very happy that our Associate Director headed up our heritage team- he's done a brilliant job. We're all very happy campers at work today. (Even wee Howard here who - needless to say, had no involvement in the project - showed up the second we busted out the champers. It could, of course, be just the bubbly that's put a smile on his face... )
Sooner or later the bronze will go on the building... In the meantime it's a roaringly heavy paperweight on the A.D's desk.
Some blips from 2012 about the last stages of this project...
