Overlords
A day of wildly dramatic skies and a visit to some of the Maasai communities who partner with our Kenya programme on all manner of wildlife coexistence activities in this region. Land use politics in Kenya are complex and sensitive, often because of the private and imbalanced system introduced by British colonial overlords. Tensions can be partially offset in places like the Amboseli landscape where there is enough wildlife to generate income from visitors, however many areas don’t have the benefit of a well-stocked national park. Today was a fascinating glimpse of land management in a relatively small area of competing needs. We escaped a drenching from showers, but some group members did have a close call with a cobra.
