Whimbrels

I saw a report of lots of whimbrels on Shapinsay so I headed over there for a few hours today. Unfortunately, a haar rolled in just as we reached the island, blanking out the scenery. I cycled about a little and sat in the RSPB hide at Mill Dam for a while. A male hen harrier swooped past the window very close, far too sudden for a photo. Later, the fog lifted and, as I headed back to the fery I saw 13 whimbrels on a field I'm sure was empty earlier and on which 18 birds were reported yesterday. No great image, but it was nice to catch up with them.
