Bachelor Herd Beds Down

This small bachelor herd, one of five we saw this evening, is enjoying the last few rays of sun up in the higher elevations of the park. Come fall, these males will compete fiercely to build a harem of females. But for right now they're good friends, glad to hang out and look regal.


In another hour or so, the moon will appear, reflecting silky-white light over the rock-studded mountainside and turning it into an other-wordly landscape.

And that, my friends, makes me wonder: do elk dance by the light of the moon?
