Morning walk to the bluebell wood.

There is nothing like an ancient wood which has carpets of indigenous English bluebells.
It is truly magical.
We went after breakfast and parked at the Green Man pub in Middleton village.Each year we have done this beautiful circular walk to see the bluebells walking the field paths to the woodland, surrounded by fields and birdsong.
We hardly met a soul.
At one point our path was alongside a field of yellow rapeseed.
Initially the skies were slightly misty but snatches of sunlight filtered through from time to time.
Over towards the south they were looking distinctly thundery and heavy.
It felt quite muggy.
We decide to go this morning as it seemed to be the best of the day for the weather.
The birdsong was beautiful, a skylark, song thrushes, chiffchaffs and black caps, to name a few. I used my Merlin App to identify the blackcap.
Cow parsley nodded in the verges next to the hawthorn hedges which were full of blossom.
I am always just so filled with emotion seeing the carpets of bluebells in vast swathes beneath the old trees.
Sunlight did filter through occasionally. At one point I sat down on a mossy fallen log just to listen to the wind in the trees and drink in the delight.
Once we were back at the pub car park we sat outside in their garden patio having ordered a cappuccino each, (very good coffee I have to say).
Home again around 1.45pm.
Now sitting on our patio with a sandwich lunch under heavy cloudier skies in that kind of stillness that comes before a storm. The air is very still.
There have been heavy storms in the south overnight with flash flooding.
Today is also the regional elections for various mayors. We think the current mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street will lose his title given the current political situation.
We shall see!
