Reassuring

Before we left for Portugal last month my iMac started acting up: running very slowly and not showing the Finder on demand.  Emergency Restore failed and eventually I realised that the hard drive, a solid state drive of 4Tb, had failed.

And the repairers in Yeovil yesterday confirmed that the drive had failed and that they would instal the replacement that I had provided. Today I got the iMac back home and I was glad of my double backup system, as each was ready to restore the files on my lovely computer.  It's taking hours, but I have a sore knee so being immobile is probably best for the moment.

As an aside, the repairers in Yeovil had a policy of inclusive employment; the youngsters I spoke to had slightly odd speech, some sort of disability, but were entrusted with customer interaction and (presumably) with the technical stuff.  My computer was clearly in good hands, and disadvantaged youngsters were being given a proper chance.  Well done that employer!
