Whistle Stop Tour
Today I started my whistle stop Tour of England. A visit to Hever Castle to see Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. I think not much of their castle remains as it seems to have been much restored and modernised by the Astors in the early part of the 20th century. The pig in the photograph is seen in the garden on the approach to the Castle.
In the afternoon we visited Winston Churchill at Chartwell, just a few miles down the road from Hever Castle. Fewer changes have taken place here, but then less time has passed. We had a tour of the gardens and then left for our allotted hour for a tour of the house.
The day concluded with dinner in Thames Ditton at a pub with very few diners apart from ourselves. Based on tonight's experience pub catering is not going very well in this part of the world.
When I checked in at the hotel I discovered I had been appointed "guest of the day". Consequently I was upgraded to a suite and given a bowl of fruit. My suite had two bedrooms and a lounge and bathroom. My first task was to decide which bedroom to sleep in. Packing in the morning was rendered more complicated than usual as I had more room to spread my stuff around.
