America's 237th Birthday

A day of reflection, relaxation, and celebration.

It was a do-nothing day and we did it well. I put the big crockpot and the bread machine on the patio table and baked a loaf of whole wheat bread and cooked a crockpot of Beer Chicken from a recipe I had seen on FaceBook. Also made one bowl of crisp cucumber salsa. Cooking and baking outside helped eliminate heating-up the house on this slightly warm day (high was 90 degrees F). Doing it outside, unfortunately, meant that we missed getting the delicious aroma invading the house.

We didn't have to go anywhere to see or hear fireworks -- they were all over our neighborhood. We also watched the Cayucos Beach Cam on the computer and saw the fireworks from the pier there.
