The Minigaig Pass
Today my old friend and I started from Blair Atholl and ran to Aviemore via the ancient Minigaig Pass over the western Cairngorms. The weather started fine, but gradually deteriorated as we reach the Spey valley. For the final 15km through the Rothiemurchus forest the rain was biblical and when we arrived at our destination the place was flooded.
The carrot-on-the-stick that kept us going was dinner at the Bridge Inn. Due to the flooding, their toilets and kitchen were not functioning. That was extremely disappointing.
The Minigaig Pass was the original route from Perth to Speyside used by cattle drovers and travellers until King George commissioned a new military road which was built via the lower Drumochter Pass in 1728. More of that tomorrow....
Picture is running into Glen Bruar, with the Minigaig pass in the distance.
