Another Day

Decisions, decisions

I said it before I thought about it, but didn't regret it.  I suggested walking the coast path towards Godrevy from base camp.  Not all the way but as far as the cliff-top car park and then cut inland through Tehidy country park.

We dawdled downhill towards Portreath, enjoying watching human activities on the beach and the bodyboarders learning their craft on the sea, mainly youngsters.  Then the long climb up the other side to the top of the cliff.

Had it been a clear day, we’d have seen Godrevy lighthouse clearly, but it was decidedly hazy.  Gulls were out on the wing along with Fulmars, and further along the top we could see hundreds of nesting birds in the side of the cliff-face, and hear all the noise that went with it.

Seathrift, vetch, foxgloves, three-sided leek, bluebells, campion, violets and other little flowers I’ve yet to identify accompanied us along the walk.  A few walkers were out, and we saw linnets, skylarks, stonechats and others, but no swift, swallows or martins.

Three idiots were pushing their electric bikes up the steps of one of the steep inclines.  If one or more had had punctures they’d have been in real trouble.  As it is the coast path is no place for bikes of any description.

I was really pleased I managed the steep ups and downs without difficulty after a winter of little activity.

After lunch overlooking the sea we headed inland to Tehidy country park and walked down to the cafe for a cup of tea before heading up past the golf club and back to base.
