Frank's closet

In the evening, we headed to The Union Theatre in Southwark to see a production of Frank's Closet. Frank has a collection of dresses from divas across the years - think Judy, Dusty, Julie and Agnetha (with a dash of Ethel Merman and Karen Carpenter thrown in) which he is forced to give to a museum so he can marry Alan.  The 'divas' provide advice to Frank as he's unsure about the next step in his life. It's a lot of fun. Pre-show and interval performances from Sheila Blige add to the evening. PY felt these interludes were a bit disjointed from the main show and went on too long; I suspect they are crucial in warming the audience up so the show can hit the ground running. The 'dvias' are performed by Luke Farrugia who is fantastic: his Judy Garland a stand out for me. And full marks for having a (small) brass section for the music because it gives the big sound that these big characters need. It's a small venue with a small cast and crew, and it was a great way to spend a Friday evening.
