Owly Sulphur (Libelloides coccajus)
Completely new species for me and I was lucky to spot it in the long grass this morning as you can see in extra with closed wings.
Apparently it is an owlfly species (who knew there was such a thing?). They are ferocious predators, ambushing or pursuing smaller flying insects, snatching them mid-flight with their powerful, clubbed antennae. Yet is looks quite innocent, don’t you think? This rare insect is also present in Italy, France, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain as well Switzerland.
