I set off this morning with Archie, and realised the sunshine I saw when I checked the weather, was rapidly disappearing. Yes, the haar came swirling in and drove me back to the house to change into a warmer jacket. When I came back out again, the sun was back with us, and stayed for the day. But I didn't risk going down to the Meadows, as if there's a cold breeze, it's there.
We walked round to Holy Corner (three churches) and I decided I needed a sit down and a drink. McLaren's on the Corner was the ideal stop. I went in to get a coke, but I'd spied the little chairlift things that are arrayed outside, and Archie scrabbled noisily and embarrassingly on the wooden floor to get back out again. These are popular in winter.
From there we walked past all the shops, with Archie stopping to look in each one. Why?
Well no, we didn't walk past the French Patisserie, we went in. Two takeaway quiches for tea... or two big slices of vanilla flan? No contest!
JR then took Archie down to Morningside to pick up a re-soled re-soled boot. Not a typo - the first re-soling didn't work, so they had to fix it.
I watched 'Alone' (Ch 4) as recommended by TML. It's about 12 assorted people being dropped off in the Canadian wilderness to see who can stay the longest, with a prize of £100,000 - quite an incentive. Race Across the World prize is only £20,000. There were bears and wolves and moose wandering around. The chap I had my money on to win in the first programme, had done all sorts of bushcraft, but he managed to whack his leg with the axe as he chopped down his first tree. I don't think the vegetarian will last - you can't live on berries and boiled leaves.
