Unraid Server
Okay to finish up my NYC Trip...
Monday we checked out of the Empire Hotel @ 63rd and Broadway and went to John's Pizzeria, then to the airport. It was $40 to check in bags or $90 to bump up to first class and the bags get checked in for free (so really only an extra $50). So I decided to give myself the ole bump, and it was definitely worth it - great way to end the trip.
Then I went to the burbs to pick up Smokey, out w/Dawn & Sarah, back to the city, finally got to bed at like 2am - LONG DAY!
Tuesday, worked - went through tons of mail, vm, blah.
Wednesday - Started to put together my new Unraid server. By month's end this will completely replace my current storage server. Not only does this case allow for more drives (20!), but unraid is a much better storage solution for me rather than raid5, which gets you locked into one specific size/brand/model hard drive.
This server will allow for incremental growth, so it'll save money and constantly can be upgraded. Storage is a hobby (I know weird) of mine, but for a geek like me this is a pretty exciting moment. I'm also glad that Unraid is based off of slackware (linux) since I started to learn linux about 10 years ago, but lost interest... Now I have a whole new reason to learn it!
Case <- That's the case, it weighs about 40 pounds alone. This is really equipment more for an actual server room, but it's also designed with home server people in mind (sort of).
Right now the server boots with what I have installed and it all works (anytime you put together a computer you also cross your fingers that first boot). The next step is to... well you don't care whoever is reading this, but I'm waiting on some parts and then I'll be able to see if it really works =)
Oh and today I went to the Comic Vault, my new favorite store.
