Roll With It

NORWAY DAY

I’ve spent the last couple of days preparing for this morning. A short notice request from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to remember a Norwegian seaman on Norway Day meant I couldn’t get a Padre or a bugler for a short service at the WWII section of Falmouth Cemetery. As word got out some fellow members of Falmouth Royal Naval Association, decided that they would attend and represent veterans from across Cornwall.
So on a sunny Friday morning we met in Falmouth Cemetery for a short service of commemoration at the grave side of Edmund Ingebrikt Johnsen.

Edmund was born in 1921, he joined the Royal Norwegian Navy two weeks after his 21st birthday and was killed in the Normandy Campaign in 1944 aged 23.
He had previously been decorated for gallantry in 1943.
An ordinary young man doing extraordinary things.

In the afternoon Joshua arrived home for what will be his last weekend for a while.
A couple of quick beers in the early evening with friend Steve before fish & chips as a family dinner.
