River Eden, it's upper course

Classic geographical features of a river in its upper course. A narrow channel with potholes in the river bed. Most are circular and are the result of the river's load being swirled around by the fast flowing water to bore into the rock. These are best seen in areas of hard rock as here. Some of them are large enough to take a person like the one in the foreground. The river was low today and seemed quite benign. However in spate it is really destructive.
The picture was taken just outside Kirkby Stephen.
