My first clear sight of a swallow this year

I do love swallows, so when I had the chance to watch them at relatively close quarters I settled in to enjoy myself. As usual I had a chuckle when several swooped very close to my head as they came to check me out. They were definitely doing this deliberately. Such playful birds. 

Today nest building was the order of the day, and for some they might already be on their nests. This swallow swooped down from a nesting area and just sat still for a minute, before renewing the flights for food.
