Wind Up Torch

There are many type of theses mechanical torches available many known as "Dyno torches," these store their energy in a flywheel. In the torch I have photographed the handle is attached to a gear rack, which will spin a step up gear. This in turn is attached to the fly wheel which is mounted on a magnet - the basis for the dynamo.

This powers the light source, in this case 3 white LED's. White LED's were one of the last to be developed as white light is a combination of every other wavelength. Now this is achieved by using a phosphor material. This turns monochromatic light from a UV LED to white light in a similar fashion to kitchen fluorescent light bulbs.
