T303 - Bluetooth

This is my Sony Ericson T303 it is pretty much at the bottom of the market and I got it from Woolworths before it closed. One of the features of my phone is Bluetooth.

Bluetooth is a wireless form of communication which creates personal area networks and was first devised as a means of avoiding synchronisation errors. The name Bluetooth has a very interesting etymology it is an anglicized version of the name of the tenth-century king Harald I of Denmark. He united Danish tribes into a single kingdom. Bluetooth is so named because it is designed to do the same thing with communication protocols.

The technology utilised is frequency-hopping spread spectrum, this splits the data in transfer into chunks of 79 frequencies. The modulation is a Gaussian frequency shift keying. Mobile phones, telephones, laptops, personal computers, printers, Global Positioning System receivers, digital cameras, and video game consoles can all be connected to one another using this technology.

I once heard it said that soon people will be able to use Bluetooth as they set off home to tell the oven to cook their dinner and the dishwasher to clean some plates so that when they arrive home everything will be ready for them to eat.
