The emigrants

A final beach walk before we were back on the road north again.
Frost stop Helmsdale for coffee and a wander up to this start in memory of those who ‘emigrated’ (ie were cleared from the land), to Canada.
Next stop Whaligoe Steps and the walk down said steps to the sea - where the herring boats used to come in and the women of the village carried the goods back up the (many, many) steps.
And then to the north coast a walk on Dunnet Beach and drive round to Dunnet Head - the most northerly point of mainland Scotland.
And quite possibly the windiest point too. But it was our stopping place for the night so we battened down the hatches and were rocked to sleep.
