Incorrect forecast

Either the Met Office had misforecasted the weather for South Mainland or we had misread it. Big plans for the day were postponed last night so we were surprised by the big golden ball of light in the sky this morning. Windy but dry.

Nevertheless I headed out for an explore of the local environs after a slow start, lunch in the Hoswick visitor centre. Then south to Sumburgh where we puffed round the cliffs of the Head and down to Grutness. Only a few distant Puffins, lots of fulmars and guillemots. A pair of wheatears on Compass Hill.

For afters we wandered round Jarlshof which added to the Minecraft vibe of the whole area.

On the way back north we drove over the Ward of Scousburgh which at 263m makes for a spectacular viewpoint over St Ninian’s Isle and its tombolo. If I had an extra I would add it here.

Picture is at Rompa overlooking Channerwick.
