Oradour-sur-Glane
This has been on Mr H’s list of places to visit in France for some time.
I had read about it, seen photographs, but nothing quite prepares you for it. It was the simple things like this bedstead, and the sewing machines that showed these were not military camps, but a village. Plain and simple.
And the melted bell (also in extras) shows the ferocity of the fires that were used to destroy the lives.
Thank goodness someone had the foresight to keep the village as a reminder of the atrocities.
It will be 80 years on the 10 June, and thankfully not one bit of memorabilia was available. I still haven’t quite come to terms with the items for sale in Normandy.
