A day in the life

National day

Today is Swedens national day.
For most of my life, nobody had declared why we celebrate the 6th of June. Nobody knew, that I know of. Not many years ago our government declared that we celebrate because on this date in 1523 that Gustaf Wasa, was declared king, which led to a union between several countries, the so called "Calmar union" was dissolved and Sweden became an independent state. Also, the 6th of June in 1809, Sweden got a new government leading to the King lost most of his power.

Not much of the festivities was noticed around my garden, I've had a productive, slow day and invited my landlord for a chat and a coffee.

I'd like to quote some of what Jessica, a friend and neighbour,  wrote on her Facebook page:

" ...I live based on the fact that no one can really own a country, air, sea or other people. I see myself as a world citizen who has obligations and rights based on being human more than being Swedish or Italian. I am a guest where ever I am and feel at home where I feel comfortable. For me it is just as important that people feel good in Rumania as well as in Stockholm..."

I'll sign to that.
