Impressive stag beetle
I pulled up some dead forget me nots and there was this huge stag beetle. I’ve seen them in the garden before but this was so close to the house. We photographed it and left it alone and it soon moved away. One of the upsides of the wildlife invasion. The deer spent most of the day in the middle of the field, probably sizing us up for the night. They just hang out there when the cows are in the far field. I encouraged Woody to bark at them but neither took any notice of the other.
We shopped for tomorrow’s lunch and then I made asparagus soup, always a treat in season. I use a very simple recipe and this year I’ve remembered to store it in the Paprika App so I don’t spend the season trying to find it. ((Note to my future self)
Afternoon gardening and planted out lots of deer proof plants, Nepeta and Salvias - it’s’ going to be a very dull garden. Still the weather was cool but quite sunny at times so it was lovely spending time outside.
Had a lovely zoom with B and the babies. Whilst Ivy waved and made quite a lot of noise I noticed Leo signing ‘hello Granny’ quietly off to the side. Very sweet!
Vikram cooked a great dinner and we watched another Rebus, which is starting to get a bit dull and a new Scandi thriller which is quite intense. Called Jana.
Eyes itchy from hay fever so will wake up with puffy eyes tomorrow.
