Dumfries House
Today we made a long overdue visit to Dumfries House with friends and we certainly were not disappointed.
The house itself has a fascinating history but even more amazing is how in 2007 the then Prince Charles , now King Charles 3rd, raised sufficient finance and stepped in at the very last minute to save the house and its unique collection of Chippendale furniture from being dispersed. What he and his team has achieved and done for the local economy since then is quite remarkable.
Obviously there are no photographs of the interior in my blip - one piece of furniture alone that we were shown on our tour of the house is reckoned to be worth in excess of £20 million and there is a very large collection of Chippendale
We particularly loved the walled garden , the alliums were amazing but there are so many other interesting things to see a few of which I have added. They have a few flower pot men !
We particularly wanted to see the beautiful monument to the young Estate manager who tragically died and whose parents are friends of ours.
