Life in a Northern Town

By kagsy

Morning

The Jet looking splendid under a threatening sky this morning.

It was a lovely, sunny morning so we took the water taxi across to the old town, and climbed the cathedral towers. It was a bit Hunchback of Notre Dame up there - I wasn’t keen, although the views were stunning. We had a mooch around the old town and stopped for drinks - I had a delicious hot milk with honey - then found the “world’s longest bench” - see second extra. They know how to live in Switzerland!

This afternoon we did a boat trip - a somewhat bizarre one. The boat was small and the lake was very choppy - we were accompanied by a couple who’d flown from San Francisco for five days in Zurich and had come to Geneva just for the day. By the time they arrived the jet d’eau had been switched off for high winds so they were very disappointed. The boat tour involved absolutely no commentary, apart from when we pulled up beside the non-functioning jet d’eau, and the pilot pointed at it shrugging his shoulders. We loved weird stuff like that so we had great fun - but we’d seen the jet plenty in full flow and hadn’t come especially for it. They did give us cheese and wine though - 2 big glasses each, which at Swiss prices was a real bargain.

Last night we had a fabulous meal with John’s old boss and his daughter - great company and we laughed all night. Tonight we shall find somewhere nice for dinner and tomorrow we head for Zermatt. Today I accidentally activated my Swiss Rail Pass a day early and it can’t be reversed so I’m not going to work out how much that will cost me…..
