Menorca Day 1
To celebrate the end of Orla’s exams and to reward her for all her dedicated studying, Dad and Orla set off to Menorca this morning. Dad has been Orla’s personal tutor and time manager over the revision period so it has been very much a team effort.
Orla has been wanting to go on a nostalgic sun-seeking holiday for ages, the last time abroad was six years ago! Conor hates such holidays (the sand, the heat and the screaming babies on aeroplanes) and Mum had to work anyway.
Orla and Dad have been on holiday together before, to Rhodes back in 2013 when Conor was a baby. About a month before Orla started primary school.
The destination is Cala Galdana, which Orla has been to twice before, once on a day trip in May 2011 before Conor was born and again in 2015 when we stayed for one night in the top class Melia Hotel.
It was an 8am flight from Glasgow so up before 5am and taxi at 5:45. All part of the excitement! The flight seemed quite short and there was a man with our name on a piece of paper waiting to take us to the resort at the other end. Wasn’t expecting a whole minibus to ourselves!
The view from our balcony in the Bona Vista apartments is stunning. It’s only a 2 star place but the view is definitely 5 star. The elevation from the beach and shops will certainly keep us fit!
After settling in we found our way down to the beach. A very mellow sunny Friday afternoon saw the locals coming out and finding a space to place down a towel.
FaceTimed Mum and Conor later, using 5G as the wifi is painfully slow. The recent purchase of a self-stick/tripod has come in very handy indeed for such things (can be seen in the photo - mid FaceTime).
Headline news today was that Michael Mosley has gone missing on the Greek island of Symi.
