Diary of an Edinburgher

Bin Find no 734

We all went out to wave Hazel off on her holiday about 10.30 am. Then Archie and I went for a walk, while JR, having been to two gym sessions, had her leisurely breakfast.

In the afternoon, were due round at Jane’s for drinkies. We’d had a text last week (Wednesday) to invite us ‘next Wednesday at 4pm’. We duly arrived at their door. No one home. We hung about for a while and I checked the arrangements. Yes, ‘next Wednesday’… Also, JR had seen them earlier in the day and they said, ‘See you later…’ when they left. Admittedly, that’s a common saying, and usually isn’t taken literally.

We gave up went home and opened the bottle we’d taken round. It was sunny in our back garden. No worries.

Then, about 6pm, when thoughts were turning to food, they appeared at our door, with a bottle of bubbly. They’d been in town.

Yes - a misunderstanding- ‘NEXT Wednesday’ apparently meant the Wednesday AFTER the NEXT Wednesday. No dates had been mentioned (or needed). But apparently dates were needed!

Never mind. The sun was still shining, we got out our tent peg glass holders, and a bowl of nibbles, and a pleasant hour or so was had. Archie made us all laugh when he came trotting out dragging his big cow toy.

Here’s our lovely new coffee table, a bin find.
