What a wonderful day!
When I woke this morning, I was inclined to stay in bed. The forecast for the Allen Valleys included some rain. Allenheads is 25 miles from home.
I argued with myself and eventually forced myself up to get ready and set off for the Intermediate Walk. How glad I am!
We had a brilliant day. The promised rain never came and the views were terrific. We did have to climb quite steeply from the valley bottom up to the moors. Hard work, but well worth it.
Sheila, our leader, grew up on a farm in this area. She was ably assisted by Mary, who shepherded all 26 (!) of us from the back of the walk.
I ran into trouble on one style where there was an enormous drop. Arth can't do the bending required, but there was nowhere for Aggie to stand. (Remember them?) Ray gallantly offered a stirrup made from his hands so I could step onto them and then make it to the ground. Thanks Ray.
I managed the rest of the walk.
There were carpets of wild pansies. I have never seen so many in one place. The wild flowers were gorgeous, but I've chosen to show you a typical view from the walk.
Predictably I fell asleep in the chair before dinner. Then I watched the wonderful Bill Ward give a talk about Theatre and Photography. That man never ceases to amaze me. I stayed awake all the way through.
I may be tired tomorrow!
