I bought myself a gorgeous skirt (see extra) and brought it in to show the Mammy.

Jean - I need to take the hem up.
Me - ah it’s grand
No - it’s too long
(Reaching for her sewing kit)

So before I could blink, the hem is cut and the sewing commences. We had no measuring tape, so we used a leaflet of some kind as a cutting guide.

Jean, I will make a matching neck scarf with the off cut (nothing was ever thrown out in our household) and it will be lovely for the beach.

I have said before how much I enjoy the company of creative people because by and large they tend to be positive interesting people.

The main photo is an affectionate portrait of my mother. We get on very well. As I am tapping this out on my phone, she is sitting across from me, head bowed, sewing away.
