Not a Bee…

…The bee was much prettier (and healthier).

But this one made me laugh. If I knew how to collage two photos together I would have put this image with the cookery book image, of the perfect little meringue swirls (‘kisses’) they should have been.
I made some (very nice. Thanks to the recipe, not me) lemon and oat cookies earlier.
They required one egg yolk.
Usually, in similar circumstances, I would keep the unused egg white.
And usually it stays in the back of the fridge until, after some weeks, transforming itself into a crazed, stiff and shiny puddle… And then Himself will say, ‘are you going to use this?’ (!)
(And sometimes I might (from what my Mother would have called ‘cussedness’) say ‘yes’. But that’s probably a matter for counselling, rather than blipping?).

Today, I was determined to be thrifty.
(And here’s the stupidity)… I had just the one egg white. And (here it comes) it was an egg white which had already (!) been sullied by a tiny bit of egg yolk.
I knew it.
The egg white knew it.
This egg white was never going to whip itself into an airy froth.
Ever.

Anyway. Flat meringues they are.
There is chocolate melting on the stove as I type. So I shall shortly adorn them into a state of suitable edibility.

The wine forecast has pulled itself together and is looking quite favourable.
(And it’s chip night! Yay!).

Happy Friday One and All :-)

(I do realise that all of the above does not say, ‘Ah! Observe. Here we have a very healthy family’. Does it count if everything is free range and/or organic?).
