Kayaking Mosquito Lake

It had got quite cool over night, so after a cooked breakfast for a belated birthday treat (!), we decided to go cycling this morning, and leave the kayaking until the afternoon when it had warmed up a bit more. We were cycling on the Western Reserve Greenway, a paved rail trail, extending 50 miles from Warren through Trumbull County, where we were located, up through Ashtabula County to the town of the same name. We did 14 miles return, then returned to the camper for a drink and a bit of lunch, before setting out kayaking on the lake. Mosquito Creek Lake, to give it its full name, is a man-made reservoir, and the second largest inland lake in Ohio. Construction of the dam was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in April 1944, and provides flood protection for the upper Ohio River, Beaver River and the Mahoning River valley. It’s almost 10 miles long and up to a mile wide. The campground is on the west side of the lake, not too far from the dam in the south. The lake was beautifully still today. Most of the boats out were fishing or pontoon boats, and whilst there were a few speed boats, since we were keeping close to the edge, they didn’t bother us. It’s probably a different story on the weekend!
So having had our lower body exercise this morning, and our upper body exercise this afternoon, we were feeling quite tired by the evening!
