Hora
A warm sunny day and after an early breakfast we set off to walk upto Hora the town at the top of a large hill with a Venetian Castle at the top. It was a walk following the route of the road but with footpaths cutting off the lengthy bends as the road wound its way uphill. We had lovely views of the sea and surrounding hills filled with various shrubs and trees including thyme bushes. We were glad when we reached the outskirts of the town and headed up through the narrow streets to explore the remains of the Venetian fort. There were several large buildings still standing and two churches adjacent to each other. The larger white Panayia Myrtidhiotissa, see Estrada’s, which is Greek Catholic and a smaller Greek Orthodox one Panayia Orfani.
We rested in the shade admiring the views before winding our way down through the narrow streets finding a small cafe where we had avocado toast and coffee on a lower balcony area with views below.
After a further wander we walked back down using a bit more of the road as the walking paths were fairly steep and the dry ground slippery.
In the evening we headed into Kapsali for an evening meal and met up with a friend of my husband who he converses in Greek with via Skype most weeks. He is with his partner staying at the same hotel so we will be enjoying meals with them in the evenings. As it’s Saturday night the area was fairly busy but we easily found somewhere to eat and had an enjoyable meal and evening.
